We found Steamboat via Yelp when looking to grab some lunch on a Saturday morning before heading downtown for a beer festival. We find that it's tough to run across a place that does one or many meats really well.įor years our go-to has always been Smoque BBQ thus we are picky about our 'que. I'm always on the lookout for Texas-style brisket and dry-rub ribs, while she usually judges a place on their pulled pork.
By no means are we BBQ snobs or experts, we just like good BBQ and have similar tastes. We will definitely be back to Steamboat very soon! We even talked about how great it would be to take advantage of their catering options for football season. Hands down the best fried mac bites that I have ever had. GENIUS! Finally, I have been craving their friend mac n cheese ever since our visit. The sweet potato fries are seasoned with brown sugar instead of salt. The sauces range from Carolina Mustard to Apple Bourbon - with lots of variety in between. They are both so moist, tender, and are not fatty! YUM! They are served naked so that you can take advantage of their BBQ sauce bar. Though the ribs were good, the pulled pork and brisket are definitely their top sellers. We ordered the ribs, brisket, pulled pork, fried mac n cheese, and sweet potato fries. The owner was taking orders the night that we were there and walking around asking people about their food. It is very small, but the line that runs the length of the place will reassure you that you've found something good. I have wanted to try out Steamboat for months! My hunny and I finally made the trip to Wheaton. I hope they will be here for a long long time.
If I never had Famous Dave before then this will be a very good place to have for BBQ, I might return again, since there's no more Famous Dave in the area. I got the apple bourbon sauce n the firebox hot, I like the apple bourbon better, the firebox hot was just really spicy, just like its name hot, but not bad either. I called back in later to request to replace 1 of my original chosen side with another side, n they were so nice, they gave me both my original chosen side n the replace 1 too. The service was very good, very friendly n very nice staff.

Cornbread was ok, I had better, potatoes salad was ok, pretty basic, big chunk with skin on n little mayo,if you don't like too much mayo in your potatoes salad then this is for you, I never had Mac cheese bite before, so can't really compare it with anything, if you think it's cheesy like a typical Mac n cheese, then this is not, otherwise it's not bad.
I put pulled pork n beef brisket to the sauce n they all tasted good. The rib, rib tips had very good taste to it, n pull pork were pretty good, the beef brisket was on the dry side. I went here yesterday, I got the bbq combo dinner with 3 meats: rib,brisket and pull pork with 2 sides of potatoes bacon salad n corn bread? My husband got the rib tips dinner. We will definitely be coming back in the future. So I'm sure it's hit or miss with the busyness. Then all of a sudden it seemed to get pretty crowded and clear out and then as we were finishing up, another wave of people came through. We got there around 6:30 & no one was in line, but there were a couple of orders ahead of us. It wasn't a long wait, but it seems like they get waves of people all at once throughout the evening. Next time, we will probably call ahead to order. Marissa took our order and was very friendly. I can't imagine anything on their menu not being great. He devoured everything and really loved the beans too. The potato salad was perfect and who can complain about fried Mac and cheese?!?! lol My boyfriend finished his whole meal, but said had he not gotten the fish, it would've been harder for him to finish. The brisket wasn't really sauced so you could choose your own and how much sauce you want, but you could taste the smoke in it. Everything had that awesome smoke flavor and was sauced to perfection. The ribs were so tender and fell off the bone and rib tips were so soft and flavorful. I couldn't finish it because it's a lot, but I tasted everything. My bf got the fried catfish, 3 rib & brisket with their baked beans and cornbread. I ordered the 3 rib, brisket & rib tips with the smoked bacon potato salad and fried Mac n cheese bites. My boyfriend and I got the 3 meat selection each.
We made the 45 min trek out to Steamboat BBQ last night and it was totally worth it! I was craving barbecue and found all the great reviews here.
